Anxiety is one of the most common concerns brought to C-G Health, and one of the most treatable. That doesn't mean quick. It means that with the right structure and steady work, real change is realistic.

The practice treats generalized anxiety, panic, health anxiety, social anxiety, and the sustained low-grade dread that runs underneath a life that looks fine from the outside.

## Understanding what anxiety actually is

Anxiety is not a character flaw. It is a nervous system doing its job, scanning for threat, preparing for the worst, and doing it too often or too loudly for the actual life you are living. Naming that clearly is the first move.

Early sessions map how anxiety is showing up in your case: the situations that trigger it, the thoughts that amplify it, the behaviors built to manage it that have quietly become part of the problem. This mapping is not incidental. It is the framework the rest of the work rests on.

## How the work is structured

Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) sits at the center. It's the most evidence-based approach to anxiety and depression, and for good reason: it works with the thoughts and behaviors that keep anxiety in place, not only the feelings that follow them. Sessions include practical, testable moves you can take between appointments to interrupt the cycle.

Mindfulness-based work runs alongside the CBT. Not the diluted version. The version that teaches you to notice a thought without believing it, to feel a physical wave of anxiety without either fighting it or being swept away, and to widen the moment enough to make a different choice inside it.

For anxiety that clearly connects to earlier experience (a critical parent, an unstable home, chronic worry modeled from childhood), schema-therapy tools help address the roots as well as the surface.

## What tends to change

The frequency and intensity of anxiety episodes usually drop within the first months of consistent work. The relationship to anxiety changes too: it becomes a signal to attend to, not a five-alarm fire. The avoidance behaviors (the plans not made, the calls not returned, the opportunities quietly declined) start to loosen.

The longer arc is a more settled nervous system, a body that doesn't stay braced, and a mind that can rest.

Is this a fit?

## An honest word about the work.

You'll likely get the most from this work if you are:

- Adults across Maryland managing generalized, panic, or social anxiety
- High-functioning people whose anxiety hides well and costs a lot
- Anyone whose anxiety connects to family history and needs both surface and depth work

The work asks for:

- Weekly or every-other-week attendance for at least a few months
- Willingness to do brief between-session practices
- Openness to trying new responses in real situations, not only rehearsing them in the room
