# Losses that reshape a life, given room and _time._

Grief work at C-G Health is not a five-stage checklist or a timeline. It is careful, unhurried company for a loss that has changed the shape of your days.

Grief is not a problem to be fixed. It is a reasonable, human response to a real loss, and it deserves the kind of attention that makes room for it rather than rushing it toward a finish line.

C-G Health offers grief counseling across Maryland by video, in English or French, for the full range of losses that mark an adult life.

## The losses this work makes room for

The death of a partner, a parent, a child, a sibling, a close friend. Loss by long illness, and loss by sudden accident. The particular weight of losing someone by suicide, or losing someone whose relationship with you was complicated when they died.

Ambiguous loss: a family member with dementia who is here and not here, an estrangement, an addiction that has taken someone while they still live. The grief of miscarriage and pregnancy loss. The grief of infertility.

And the quieter griefs that don't always get named: a career ending, an identity shifting with retirement, a body changing with illness, a friendship that ended without a rupture, the country or community you left behind.

## What the work actually looks like

The first sessions are mostly about telling the story: who was lost, what the relationship was, what the loss has done to your days. Not because retelling is inherently healing, but because being received clearly by someone who is not exhausted by your grief is a rare and useful thing.

From there the work opens out. It looks at what grief is doing to sleep, appetite, work, other relationships. It makes room for the anger and guilt and relief that often ride alongside sadness and get judged for being there. It notices when grief has begun to organize itself into a lasting weight that needs specific attention.

Where useful, cognitive and mindfulness tools help with the harder edges: intrusive images, sleep disruption, waves that overwhelm. But the center of the work is presence and pacing, not technique.

## Grief that lasts, grief that changes

Grief does not end. It changes shape. Over months and years the acute waves usually come less often, and the loss gets integrated into a life that has continued past it. The relationship with the person who is gone continues too, differently, but genuinely.

For grief that has become stuck (a year, two years, five years in, and nothing has moved), sessions can attend to that specifically, with a clearer therapeutic frame around what is holding the grief in place.

Is this a fit?

## An honest word about the work.

You'll likely get the most from this work if you are:

- Adults across Maryland grieving a death, an ambiguous loss, or a life change that carries loss inside it
- People whose grief has been rushed or dismissed by others
- Anyone whose grief has settled into a longer, heavier weight and stopped moving

The work asks for:

- A willingness to speak about the loss in some detail
- Steady attendance, usually every week or two
- Patience: grief work is measured in seasons
