Duty-related trauma has its own texture, and it deserves a clinician who understands that context rather than one who has to have it explained from scratch every session.

C-G Health provides telehealth psychotherapy across Maryland for veterans and first responders navigating the aftermath of service work: single-incident trauma, cumulative trauma, moral injury, reintegration, and the slower work of building a life that fits again.

## What tends to bring people in

Sleep that will not come, or comes and doesn't rest. A hypervigilance that once kept you alive and now keeps you separated from the people around you. Anger that arrives faster than thought. Numbness that costs you the things you used to enjoy. Substance use that started as a way to sleep and became a second problem.

Moral injury: the specific weight of having done or witnessed something that violated your own moral code, and having no adequate place to set that weight down. Grief for the people you served with. Grief for the version of yourself you left behind.

## How the work is structured

Sessions begin with stabilization: steadying sleep, honest work on any substance use that is running the show, a shared map of triggers, and a plan for what you do when the system floods. This foundation is not optional and it is not decorative.

From there, the trauma work proper begins at the pace you set. It includes cognitive processing of specific events, somatic awareness of what the body is holding, and, where relevant, the tools of schema therapy for the beliefs about self, world, and other people that formed inside the work.

For moral injury, the work is slower and more relational. It attends to guilt, shame, and the specific spiritual weight of duty, and it does that without pretending easy resolution is available.

## Family, career, and the second life

Service and first-responder work reshape marriages, parenting, and identity itself. Sessions can attend to that directly: the partner who has been holding a lot alone, the children navigating a parent's return, the career decisions on the other side of service, the loss of a professional identity that had been load-bearing.

Couples sessions are also available when the relationship itself needs the room.

Is this a fit?

## An honest word about the work.

You'll likely get the most from this work if you are:

- Veterans of any branch or era
- Active and retired police, firefighters, EMS, dispatch, and corrections staff
- Family members of veterans and first responders who are carrying secondary trauma

The work asks for:

- Willingness to build the stabilization work first
- Honest reporting on sleep, substance use, and safety
- Steady attendance over months, not weeks

For an acute crisis (active suicidality, severe substance use, or an unsafe living situation), a higher level of care is usually the right first step. The Veterans Crisis Line is available at 988, press 1.
