Trauma therapy · Maryland telehealth

# Making sense of what happened so it stops shaping the _present._

Trauma-informed psychotherapy across Maryland by video for single-incident and complex trauma. Careful pacing, real structure, and a clear plan for what safety looks like along the way.

Trauma therapy at C-G Health is not about revisiting the worst moments of your life to feel them again. It is about giving the nervous system, the memory system, and the meaning-making system what they need so those moments stop running the present.

The practice sees adults with single-incident trauma (a car accident, an assault, a medical event, a sudden loss) and complex trauma (developmental trauma, chronic instability in childhood, repeated exposure through work). There is particular experience with veterans and first responders.

## Stabilize first, then work

Trauma work begins with stabilization: steadying sleep, grounding practices, an honest map of current supports, and a shared plan for what you do when the system gets flooded. This is not the boring part before the real work; it is the ground the real work stands on.

Only once that ground is steady does the memory work begin, and even then it happens at a pace you set. There is no productive trauma therapy that overwhelms you. If you feel steamrolled by sessions, something is wrong with the pacing, not with you.

## How the memory work actually goes

Trauma memories are stored differently than ordinary memories: as fragments, sensations, and reactions that fire before words arrive. The work is to help those fragments settle into an integrated, past-tense story: something that happened, that is over, and that no longer needs the whole system on alert.

This uses a blend of cognitive processing (understanding the meaning you made of what happened), somatic awareness (noticing what the body is holding and giving it room to shift), and, where useful, the tools of schema therapy for the beliefs about self and others that formed around the event.

## Complex and developmental trauma

When trauma is not a single event but the shape of the environment you grew up in (chronic instability, emotional neglect, ongoing threat), the work is longer, gentler, and more relational. The therapy relationship itself becomes part of the treatment: a steady, predictable place that models something the early environment did not.

Progress in complex trauma is measured in months and seasons, not sessions. The changes are worth the time.

## For veterans and first responders

Duty-related trauma has its own texture: moral injury, hypervigilance that once kept you alive and now keeps you awake, a nervous system trained for a different environment than the one you're in now. The work respects that context and speaks the language of it.

Is this a fit?

## An honest word about the work.

You'll likely get the most from this work if you are:

- Adults across Maryland with single-incident or complex trauma
- Veterans and first responders navigating duty-related trauma
- People who have tried talk therapy that felt too fast or too shallow

The work asks for:

- Willingness to build the stabilization work before the memory work
- Steady attendance over several months
- Honest reporting of how sessions land, including when they don't

Active suicidality, severe dissociation, or an acute substance-use crisis usually calls for a higher level of care first. A referral to the right level can go out instead of scheduling.
