Affair recovery · couples
After a betrayal, before you decide what happens next.
Couples therapy after infidelity, across Maryland by secure video. Sessions of 75 minutes.
In the period straight after a disclosure, most couples are trying to have three conversations at once: what happened, why it happened, and whether the relationship continues. Attempted together, they tend to produce the same argument on a loop.
The work separates them and takes them in order. That alone lowers the temperature enough for anything else to be possible.
The order the work takes
First, stabilising: agreeing what is disclosed now, what is not, and how the two of you will get through the week without further damage. Detail released at the wrong moment injures without informing.
Then the meaning of the affair, which is not the same as excusing it. Then, and only then, whether and how the relationship is rebuilt.

The clinical basis
The approach draws on the Gottman method's structured sequence for recovery after betrayal: atonement, attunement, and eventually attachment, in that sequence rather than in parallel.
Schema therapy is used alongside it, because what each partner does in the aftermath usually has roots well before this relationship.

Both outcomes are legitimate
The work is not organised around keeping the relationship together at all costs. Some couples rebuild, and some conclude clearly that they will not.
A decision reached with understanding is a better outcome than a reconciliation reached through exhaustion. Whichever direction it goes, the aim is that it is chosen rather than defaulted into.
The practical frame
Couples sessions are 75 minutes at $280, by secure video, with both partners physically in Maryland at the time. Cancelling inside 24 hours is billed at $130.
Enquiries are answered within 24 to 48 hours. Sessions are available in English or French.
